State Officer Update: Surf’s Up! State Officers Take on California’s Coast

By Melanie Orozco, State FFA Reporter

This month, we had the privilege of attending both the South Coast Sectional Leadership Conference and two of the North Coast Sectional Leadership Nights with plenty of chapter visits sprinkled in between.

Chapter visits have been a highlight for our team, and a great opportunity to meet the FFA members that are the heart of our association. In September, I personally visited FFA chapters in Taft, Morro Bay, Upper Lake, Woodland, Las Plumas, Lincoln, Durham, and Sunset. My teammates were also visiting chapters throughout the state. FFA members seem to be enjoying the visits too. On a recent visit, Zane Mackay, member of the Las Plumas FFA Chapter, shared, “We were honored to receive a chapter visit from the state officers. It was very personable, fun, and educational. The visit was an experience every member thoroughly enjoyed.”

Our team also traveled to San Luis Obispo and Davis to participate in campus tours and facilitator trainings. At Cal Poly and UC Davis, we learned new skills from agricultural education professors that will help us effectively present leadership workshops at conferences and chapter visits. We feel ready!

Next month, we will be traveling to Indianapolis with so many of you! The National FFA Convention & Expo will take place October 26-29 and California will take 46 proud delegates ready to represent the Golden State at the national level. These delegates came together on September 20 at the California FFA Center, where they received training and information about committee assignments, the delegate process, and how to represent California well. Additionally, many California FFA members have been working hard on their leadership and career development events to compete at the national level. Good luck! October is sure to hold many adventures for our state officers and members.
