Key Updates Due to COVID-19 Pandemic
  Posted 3/26/2020

The events that are affecting every corner of the world are most certainly being felt here at home. Each day new information comes available that further highlights the need to be vigilant and follow the direction provided by the CDE, the Governor’s Office and the County Health Departments.

As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, many tough decisions have to be made. These decisions have an impact on teachers, students and families. Students that have worked hard on preparing for interviews, competing in leadership competitions and even taking part in a career development event, are experiencing the unknown.

In helping move forward, we are providing updates. Additional information will be provided as decisions are finalized.

California FFA Operational Status
The California FFA and the California FFA Center remain operational at this time. All State Staff, State FFA Center Staff and State FFA Officers are working remotely. Travel for all State Staff and State FFA Officers remains suspended until further notice. The California FFA Center is currently closed to visitors.

We continue to answer phones and messages while planning events and items important to our mission. Please know we are available should you have any questions or concerns.

Educator Resources
State Staff has been coordinating a resource page on calaged.org for online or extended learning. Additional resources will be uploaded as they become available. We are hopeful that the site will be helpful for teachers, students and parents. The direct link for resources is https://www.calaged.org/page.aspx?ID=4715

Regional Meetings, Award Programs and Leadership Competitions
Regional FFA Officers in cooperation with the Regional FFA Advisor are working to reschedule important regional events. Some of these will occur via a virtual format while others will hopefully occur in a face-to-face meeting or program. Stay connected with the Regional FFA Officers and the Regional FFA Advisor for specific details.

  CA FFA’s COVID-19 Update
  Posted 3/19/2020

The California Association FFA, California Department of Education, California Agricultural Teachers' Association and the FFA Adult Board have been continually monitoring the spread of COVID-19. Our primary focus remains the health and safety of our students and teachers.

Over the past ten days, we have been receiving hourly updates on the latest regarding the COVID-19. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially classified COVID-19 as a pandemic and on March 15, 2020, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a recommendation to cancel or postpone in person events that consist of 50 people or more.

We realize these recent developments have left agricultural teachers, students, parents, administrators and supporters with many questions regarding upcoming association events, activities and programs. Numerous conference calls by State Staff, FFA Staff and the FFA Adult Board have been held in an attempt to ensure an open line of communication as well as to stay abreast of the latest developments.

1. State Staff has been directed by the State Superintendent to work from home for immediate future. The Department of Education remains open for those that are considered essential or do not have the ability to work from home.

2. Recently Sacramento County health officials issued stay-at-home directives for residents and businesses. Staff members at the FFA Center have been encouraged to work from home to the best extent possible.

3. All section, region and state face-to-face meetings/events/award programs should be postponed until at least May 1.

4.  We are currently in communication with the City of Anaheim regarding the 2020 State FFA Leadership Conference. Options are being reviewed and a contingency plan is being developed. There will be a State FFA Leadership Conference in 2020. What this conference will look like is being determined at this time.

5.  With the closure of college and university campuses, Field Days have been postponed and/or cancelled. At this time CRC, Fresno State and Cal Poly have all stepped up and are looking at alternative dates for hosting State Finals. Every effort will be made to follow the CATA Curricular Code. However, we do realize that there will be instances where there may be adjustments.

We continue to encourage all local FFA chapters to follow the directives provided by their local school districts and to focus on proactive measures regarding personal and community health. They should regularly monitor information from the Governor's Office, CDC and the California Department of Health for the appropriate next steps.

Agrigultural Educators are some of the most versatile individuals and are continually challenged to adjust. This is another moment in time when we need to lead by example. We are confident that agricultural education and the FFA will survive this latest challenge and will emerge stronger than ever. Together, WE WILL make it through this!
