OVERVIEW      

Get an up-close look at your future career! Career Success Tours at the California State FFA Convention provide FFA members with a potential look at agricultural careers in eight areas:

  • Biotechnology system

  • Natural resource systems
  • Plant systems
  • Power, structural & technical systems.

TOUR POLICIES      

TOUR POLICIES:

  1. Tours are available to all registered participants at the 2019 State FFA Leadership Conference. 
  2. Students participating in a tour must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
  3. Students must be in field day uniform (Uniform from the Waist Up with Black Pants).
  4. Lunch is not provided.

SAN DIEGO SAFARI PARK - ALL DAY TOUR      

The San Diego Safari park is a 1800 acre wildlife preserve that houses over 3500 animals representing 260 species and is a botanical garden.

Tour participants will tour both the Paul Harter Veterinary Medical Center and the Beckman Center. The state-of-the-art Harter Veterinary Medical Center at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is considered to be one of the most sophisticated zoo animal hospitals in the world. The Beckman Center is home of the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research where participants will learn about a myriad of conservation science projects led by the Zoo, including the Northern White Rhino Genetic Rescue initiative.

RONALD REAGAN LIBRARY - ALL DAY TOUR      

State-of-the-art, immersive exhibits are yours to explore at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum! From Air Force One to historic photos and video to interactive games, the Reagan Library is one of the most unique travel destinations in Southern California.

AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY - ALL DAY TOUR      

This tour includes stops at Universal Technical Institute’s (UTI) state-of-industry campus in Rancho Cucamonga followed by visits to a John Deere dealership and Sunset Equipment. Tour participants first will discover how technicians train to work in growing industries including agriculture. They also will gain valuable insights from UTI instructors and students about training for diesel, automotive and welding careers. After lunch, which will be provided, the tour will continue at a local John Deere Dealership and Sunset Equipment, where technicians diagnose, service and repair ag engines and equipment of all sizes. This tour is a unique opportunity for FFA members to learn about great career options and how they can learn the skills that are in demand.

OC PRODUCE - HALF DAY TOURS      

Today, the third and fourth generations of OC Produce are working hard to make sure that O.C. residents have access to dependable and delicious, local grown produce. These dedicated farmers continue to grow exceptional fruits and vegetables within the urban boundaries of this dynamic county.

“Urban agriculture has many different dimensions. Plan to see aggressive urban agriculture activity in 3 different scales. From small back yard production to intensive vertical and horizontal edible landscape systems both indoor and outdoor…to full-scale commercial conventional and certified organic production systems.Witness the re-purposing of underutilized public and private properties to productive, dynamic working landscapes that help to create multiple benefit solutions for our farmers and communities.”

AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC - HALF DAY TOUR      

The Aquarium of the Pacific is the fourth most-attended aquarium in the nation. It displays over 11,000 animals in more than 50 exhibits that represent the diversity of the Pacific Ocean. Each year more than 1.7 million people visit the Aquarium. Beyond its world-class animal exhibits, the Aquarium offers educational programs for people of all ages from hands-on activities to lectures by leading scientists. Through these programs and a variety of multimedia experiences, the Aquarium provides opportunities to delve deeper into ocean science and learn more about our planet. The Aquarium of the Pacific has redefined the modern aquarium. NEWPORT WHALE WATCHING - HALF DAY TOUR      

See giant blue whales, finback whales, gray whales, and many more in their natural habitat and it’s all possible in this whale watching experience. With one of the largest marine protected parks outside of Newport Bay, whales and dolphin of all types can be viewed as soon as you leave the bay.

TANAKA FARMS - HALF DAY TOUR      

Tanaka Farms began with great-grandfather Teruo who immigrated from Hiroshima-ken, Japan. After making the arduous journey to California his son, grandfather George, was born in Dinuba. Farmer Tanaka is a "Sansei", a 3rd generation Japanese American, who was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California and has a degree in Agricultural Business. Their 30-acres of fruits & vegetables supply their produce stand, provide for our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program and various educational tours.

Enjoy a wagon ride through the fields taste testing throughout the tour, eating as much as you desire. When you leave, take a pound of strawberries with you.

SOUTH COAST RESEARCH CENTER - HALF DAY      

South Coast Research and Extension Center was established by the University of California in 1956 as a representative site for agricultural and horticultural research in California's south coastal plain-temperate climatic zone. Located on 200 acres of deep, moderately sloped, alluvial fan soil, the Center and its mild winter climate are conducive to farming a wide range of crops including subtropicals as well as ornamentals for the urban landscape.

CAL POLY POMONA COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE - HALF DAY TOUR      

Check out Cal Poly Pomona’s agriculture facilities and gain an insight to their facilities, programs and student life. Enjoy the opportunity to visit the farm store, greenhouses, and livestock facilities.

RICHARD NIXON LIBRARY - HALF DAY TOUR      

The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is one of 13 presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration’s Office of Presidential Libraries. The Nixon Library’s mission is to educate and inform. The Nixon Presidential Materials collection contains approximately 46 million pages of documents, 3,700 hours of recorded Presidential conversations known as the “White House Tapes” and 300,000 still photographs.

CARLSBAD FLOWER FIELDS - HALF DAY TOUR      

For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, are in bloom from early March through early May, literally bringing the famous fields back to life.

State Convention
Each April, 5,000+ FFA members and guests gather to engage in general sessions, educational leadership workshops, a career show and delegate sessions to accomplish the business of the CA FFA Association.
