ANNOUNCEMENTS:

**L@@K==>> As an Agriculture teacher, you can become certified as an
"Accredited Parliamentarian (AP)." The first step is to join the SOCIETY
FOR AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION PARLIAMENTARIANS (presently, there is not a fee).
Contact Dr. Jim Connors (connors.49@osu.edu) for all the details.

**The Difference Between A "Motion" And A "Question."

Before a motion is stated to the assembly by the chair it is known as a
"motion." It is correctly referred to as a "question" after it is stated to
the assembly.

**The Standard Citation For "Robert's Rules Of Order Newly Revised"
(abbreviated "RONR")

The standard citation to particular pages and lines is "RONR (10th ed.[for
'edition'] ), p. [for 'page' or "'pages'], l.[for 'line' or 'lines']." See
the examples below.

**Exceptions To The Rules For FFA Chapter Minutes

"The name of the seconder of a motion should not be entered in the minutes
unless ordered by the assembly." [RONR (10th ed.), p. 453, l. 29 30.]

**What Is An Immediately Pending Motion? (
http://www.nancysylvester.com/index.html)

"A motion is considered "immediately pending" when several motions are
pending and it is the motion that was last stated by the chair and will be
the first to be disposed of."

**Selecting The FFA Committee Chairman For The Motion To Commit or Refer

When the motion to Commit or Refer is adopted, "The first person that the
chair names is automatically chairman of the committee unless the assembly
rejects that person as a committee member or unless he or she declines the
chairmanship..." [RONR (10th ed.), p. 477, footnote.]

**Corrections In The Official FFA Reference Tenth Edition of Robert's Rules
Of Order Newly Revised

RONR corrections are listed below so that if you have a printing earlier
than the fifth you may note them in your copy. The "printing" of the 10th
edition is on the back of the title page. It is the first number on the
bottom line. Other corrections will be listed in future E Bulletins.

+ p. 651, under "Attend meetings [/] requirement as condition of
membership": strike out "55" and insert "555"
+ p. 666, under "Elections [/] when no candidate receives a majority":
following " 417" add "425, 426 27
+ p. 669, under "Fraud": strike out "469" and insert "462"

**What Is The Value Of Parliamentary Procedure? (Louise M. Henely)

You learn to respect another's view point
You discover you can even "disagree" agreeably
You school yourself in patience
You gain dignity and self control
You learn that a quiet answer turns away wrath

**Are You Using The Current Edition Of Robert's Rules Of Order With Your
FFA Students?

The 1915 edition (the 4th) of Robert's Rules of Order is the latest that is
no longer protected by copyright law. There are numerous "Robert's Rules of
Order" derived from this edition by modern authors. Some are merely the 4th
edition with some formatting and illustration improvements, and others are a
complete revision. The CURRENT edition (10th) is entitled "Robert's Rules of
Order Newly Revised," and contains 704 pages, plus 48 "tinted" pages. It was
published in the year 2000.

Should the FFA officers be counted in determining whether or not a
quorum is present?

A: "If the officers are members of the assembly as they usually are in
ordinary societies they are counted in determining whether a quorum is
present." [RONR (10th ed.), p. 21, l. 10 12.]
