Young people joining FFA in record numbers

At a time when agriculture's public image is under attack, a curious thing is happening in high schools across the nation. More students are joining Future Farmers of America than ever before.
This year, more than 500,000 students will don the trademark blue jackets with yellow embroidery and take part in everything from raising farm animals to sharpening their public speaking skills. It's the largest number of students in the organization's 83-year history.
Nearly every region of the country has seen an increase in FFA enrollment, and California -- led by the central San Joaquin Valley -- is no exception.
