This is a beginning list of Web Sites, which may prove helpful to school integrating agriculture into the established curriculum in order to help students reach their highest levels of achievement. This list of sites is not comprehensive. The comments are derived from the observation and consideration Agricultural Literacy Coordinator. The agricultural education web site and location of the Agricultural Literacy information page. Provides information about the career preparation program in California with calendars. The agriculture program directory and state and regional news are provided.

Nutrition Education and Training site with information on philosophy of the Garden in Every School initiative.

www.cfaitc.org

California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom site with access to teachers’ resource guide, CFAITC lessons using agriculture as a teaching tool, professional development activities, and links to many other agriculture web sites.

California Department of Food and Agriculture site with access to information on the various responsibilities of the department including the latest agriculture statistics, crop and commodity descriptions and specific projects of the public information office including lessons in food safety, nutrition and pest control.

www.peacecorps.gov

World Wise Schools, Kids World, stories from volunteers in the field in addition to general information on the organization, make this site valuable for authentic information on agriculture and life in other countries. Through Kids' World you will find country specific information on food and agriculture after selecting a part of the world to investigate.

The National FFA Organization site provides access to career information focusing on agriculture related careers as well as national FFA events.

www.californiaheartland.com

California Heartland is a statewide magazine program on PBS featuring the agriculture of California. The site provides information on upcoming programs plus an extensive annotated library of past programs. Video copies of the programs are available for sale thorough California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom.

California Integrated Waste Management Board provides lessons and workshops on composting and vermiculture, access to surplus resources and intriguing student activities. Select “Education and assistance to schools” among the programs. 

www.garden.org

The National Gardening Association offers assistance and information through its bi-monthly magazine and newsletter specifically for those in working with youth gardens. The association has an annual grants program for school and youth gardens. Recipients use the funds for tools and supplies needed for garden start up. The association encourages the use of the "GrowLab" and associated lesson plans to use gardens as a teaching tool. The web site gives access to many other gardening sites

food_fiber.okstate.edu

Food and Fiber Systems Literacy, a curriculum guide and lesson plans for agricultural literacy developed in the mid-west using the draft California curriculum guide. Lessons, keyed to academic area bench-marks, can be down loaded in the PDF format.
