Purpose
The FFA is a secondary student organization that is an integral part of each
comprehensive Agricultural Education Program. Its mission is to make a positive difference
in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal
growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
The mission statement of the FFA is:
- Develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership;
- Increases awareness of the global and technological importance of agriculture and its
contribution to our well-being;
- Strengthens the confidence of agriculture students in themselves and their work;
- Promotes the intelligent choice and establishment of an agricultural career;
- Encourages achievement in supervised agricultural experience programs;
- Encourages wise management of economic, environmental and human resources of the
community;
- Develops interpersonal skills in teamwork, communications, human relations and social
interaction;
- Builds character and promotes citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism;
- Promotes cooperation and cooperative attitudes among all people;
- Promotes healthy lifestyles;
- Encourages excellence in scholarship.
Program(s)/Service(s)
Since 1928, the Agricultural Education Unit of the California Department of
Education has been the official sponsor of the California Association of Future Farmers of
America. The state advisor and staff coordinate and supervise all activities of the
California FFA Association. Local agricultural education instructors serve as advisors to
local chapters. Each year the following programs and activities are conducted:
- Election, training and coordination of State FFA Officer activities
- National Leadership Conference participation
- Election, training and coordination of regional officer activities
- Regional FFA Officer Leadership Conference
- Chapter Officer Leadership Conferences
- Made for Excellence Conferences
- Advanced Leadership Academies
- Sacramento Leadership Experience
- Spring regional meetings and competitive events
- Region and State Executive Committee meetings
- Coordination of statewide career development events
- Statewide awards and scholarships
- State FFA Leadership Conference
- Industry tours
- Supervise students in entrepreneurship and placement experience programs
Funding
Funds are provided by local chapters and school districts. At the state level,
funds are provided annually for vocational student organization leadership activities.
Both state and Federal sources (Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Act)
provide funds for state administration and staff. Funds for scholarships, awards and
special leadership activities are provided by individual, business and industry sponsors.
Students Served
More than 50,000 high school students participate in leadership, citizenship and
career development activities annually through the FFA. Students also benefit from
resources provided to over 305 chapters.
